This honor is a recognition of the achievements of the planner as an individual, elevating the Fellow before the public and the profession as a model planner who has made significant contributions to planning and society. Fellowship is granted to planners who have been members of AICP and have achieved excellence in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public/community service, and leadership. Those chosen become members of the College of Fellows. Solin served on the governing board of AICP, from 1988 to 1996, was principal author of AICP’s first Professional Practice Manual (American Planning Association Press, 1995), and chaired the AICP Professional Practice Committee and AICP Ethics Committee.

Solin routinely is selected by public and private sector clients to offer expert testimony regarding land use, growth management, site planning, and developments. Issues frequently address compatibility, consistency, and code compliance in forums before elected and appointed officials, administrative hearings, and in matters before the judicial court.
